about the project

The Faena Miami Cultural Center is a cultural icon and structural achievement. A concrete cylindrical skin as structure cantilevers over a reflecting pool submersing the entry in water caustics. Emergence into columnless exhibition space focuses visitor attention on exhibition over architecture. The facade is a decorative skin and perpetual reminder of the structural manipulation required to achieve the interior space. Above the exhibition hall sits a lecture hall capped by a fluted dome. A path constricting the dome climaxes on a roof space overlooking the Faena District. At the rear, large removable glass panels overlook the harbor and allow over-sized works to be brought into the center for display.
