about the project

Chaoyang Park Plaza is a mixed-use development containing office towers, retail-office clubhouses, residential towers and an underground shopping center between the 3rd and 4th Ring Roads in Beijing, China. Most notable is that the Plaza is one of the first examples of Ma Yansong's Shanshui City, a theory that marries Chinese phenomenology and tradition with modern architecture. The compound curvature of the towers is achieved through shingling semi-flat glass panels creating a form meant to interact with natural rainfall. Verticality of the towers and the horizontal language of the clubhouses is blended by meditative landscapes providing rest from typical office life.
